Family History Library Nordic Day, August 2021
9:00 AM MDT; Navigating Nordic Names – Do you find yourself confused with Nordic naming practices? This class will walk you through the naming practices for the countries if Sweden, Finland, Norway and Demark - explaining their similarities and differences. It will also outline good practices on how to navigate these naming patterns as you input your family into FamilySearch Family Tree.

10:15 AM MDT; Denmark Regional Series: Fyn – Fyn is the second largest island in Denmark and traditionally was split into two counties, Odense and Svendborg. This class will cover history of this area and demonstrate how to use fynshistorie.dk, an invaluable website when researching in this part of Denmark. Smaller nearby islands such as Ærø and Langeland will be covered as well. 

12:30 PM MDT; The Denmark Regional Series: Vejle, Skanderborg, Århus – Several genealogical enthusiats have and continue to extensively research and publish documents related to this area. This class will teach how to access these resources and also cover some of the unique elements and history of this part of Denmark. 

1:45 PM MDT; Mantals Tax Records in Finland – The Finns paid an annual Mantals tax to the Swedish government between 1634 – 1808. These tax records are a great source when there are gaps in, or to pre-date the communion records (Rippikirja). Come learn about this great resource for Finnish genealogy.

3:00 PM MDT; Exploring Court Records in Norway – Here we will be looking at some of the court records for Norway, such as Dee registration records:  Mortgage records and Land Consolidation.  We will also look at some Legal Proceedings and Sanctions and Prison Records.
